PRESS RELEASE 28 November 2017

International Spill Accreditation Association (ISAA) and the UK Spill Contractors Accreditation Scheme (UKSCAS)

The recent agreement reached by ISAA and UK Spill Association to combine the two Accreditation Schemes has now been signed, and steps are now being taken to merge and harmonise the Schemes.

It is planned that the new joint Scheme will be known as the International Spill Accreditation Scheme, with UK and Ireland being augmented by an expansion to involve international responders.

Following recent moves by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to set a new standard for the Accreditation of Marine Responders, the first decision by the joint Schemes is to adopt the MCA proposals. The MCA proposals will be going to consultation, over the next 6 months. At the conclusion of that process, the Marine standard will be incorporated by the joint schemes. Support for the merger plans by the other Environment and Marine Agencies in the UK and Ireland is expected.

The working group set up to merge/harmonise the Schemes has set a target to complete the process by end 2018, with both Schemes continuing separate operation in 2018. Existing standards, accreditation rules and fees will be maintained for 2018.
